Chicago Paralegal Jobs

Chicago Paralegal Jobs

A non-lawyer who performs much of the normal tasks of a lawyer, the paralegal works under the supervision of an attorney engaged in the practice of law.
The term “paralegal” is often used interchangeably with the term “legal assistant,” with little to no distinction between the two.

Nature of the Job

The duties of a paralegal vary, depending upon the attorneys for whom they work. Some paralegals may focus their skills and knowledge on special areas of law, such as personal injury or laws on will, trusts, and estates. Others may focus on less specialized areas of the legal system. From the traditional viewpoint, the paralegal deals more with procedural law than with substantive law.

Educational Requirements

The educational requirements of paralegals are not standardized. As such, many employers have varied requirements for applicants. But while different employers have different paralegal educational requirements, it is recommended that you get at least some formal education to get a better foothold in this exciting but highly competitive career field.

The demand for more paralegals is ever increasing. According to a recent projection report released by the US Department of Labor and Statistics, the number of paralegal jobs is set to increase by 33%. This is true in all U.S. states, including the state of Illinois.
